It is a decal wrap.

Fake news

It's called 'ratting' a vehicle. Mostly done on motorbikes. Personally I like the authentic vehicles, like bullet strewn bashed up dusty Mercs rattling around Beruit.

mmd, like with architecture, just doesn't know how to appreciate the beauty here. i'm sure someone will be willing to explain it to you though:D

It is a stupid, ugly, and hopefully short-lived fad.

Its been around since the early 70's as far as I can tell. Not everyone wants a shiney lime green paint job, or star spangled fuel tank and chrome everywhere. Plus, ratted vehicles are far less likely to get stolen. But it's 'implied' or faked kudos; making a vehicle look like it's just done 100,000 miles of Mad Max adventures, kind of like those pre-ripped jeans for sale, or brand new 'distressed' guitars. People want the look without the work needed to get there naturally.

Fake rust is rediculous.

707hp? Big deal.
The new Tesla Roadster does 0-60 in 1.9 seconds, the 1/4 in 8.9 and tops out over 250 mph.
Oh and it has a 620 mile range.

One of the styles I saw at Barrett Jackson last month was the old pick up with the fauxtina painted on and then sprayed with a gloss, I saw at least two and they did not look good under the lights. It stuck me as wrong. Not as wrong as zwarovski crystal Porsche, but very close.

$200k. A lot of cash to be sure, but not when placed against other super cars. Porsche Turbo S price for Bugatti Chiron performance. A relative bargain!

Same place I managed 120 a few days ago. :)

0-60 in under 2 seconds must be something to experience, but the 620 mile range is what impresses me the most.

VERY good looking roadster. Like a Miata MX-5, grownup and serious.

Must be a bit odd to have all that performance be silent, though. I must admit when it took off in that vid, it disappeared like a scalded dog. Damn, that thing is QUICK.

Leave it to Elon Musk to unveil it as a throwaway to the new Tesla Semi truck, which is cool in its own right. The thing is, will they be around long enough to build them? The Model 3 intro is eating them out of house and home at the moment.

Is electric to driving = multihulls to sailing?

Seems like, once it gets figured out, there's no limit. E=mc squarrrred.

Does a fake dirty car require fake dirty jeans on the driver? These will set you back $425.

I seriously doubt any driver not trained for it would not be able to get that car to two hundred fifty miles and hour and bring it back to the garage in one piece.

Do the pristine shoes spoil the look or enhance it?

mmd

I have a couple of pairs of jeans that look like that. Probably cost more than US$425 in parts, supplies, and effort over the months that it took to get them to look like that, though...

I dunno mmd.. every time I get jeans to looking like that, they're about to fall apart. The money must somehow be in having them look like the most comfortable jeans in the drawer, but still have life in 'em. :D

I have many pairs of the real thing - though probably worth more because they also have rips & holes. Cost is 1/10 of the 425 + a week or 2 of use.

TomF, you are not trying hard enough. Or not doing work that is sufficiently dirty enough. Try crawling about in the bilges of steel fishing boats more often.

Makes the acceleration even more impressive. That's a lot of mass to move.

With 7300lb ft of torque available at the wheels, projected acceleration figures are similar startling: 0-60mph in 1.9sec, and 0-100mph in 4.2sec.

7300lb ft of torque !!!!! OMFG

The new Roadster’s battery pack capacity claim of 200 kWh, this translates to a battery weight of 833 kg, or roughly 1,800 pounds.

The new Roadster’s battery pack capacity claim of 200 kWh, this translates to a battery weight of 833 kg, or roughly 1,800 pounds.Haven't actually seen the weight of the battery for the roadster. I was multiplying the weight of the Tesla S battery by two. Looking a little further, Tesla is claiming to have cut the weight of their battery in half--which I would think would be a major story in itself.
