Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Really. This was the signature drink in the bar in my home town that catered to the offshore scallop fishermen. The bar was named the Wade House, after the builder of the original home that became the bar, but we lovingly referred to it as "The Weird House".

Ouch! I'm not sure about that one!

Is it served in a half-pint draft glass? It should fit nicely.

Err, that's like two bottles of wine in a glass.

Actually, traditional Canadian draft glasses are 1/2 pint = 10 oz Imperial, 284 ml to the line, plus head space. At least, this is how big they were in BC, Alberta and Ontario. I am not sure if you can actually get a beer in a 1/2 pint draft glass anymore. The beer is better, but there is no standardized glass, and I believe they may have removed the plimsoll line if there is one.

Interesting! Very different from the glasses I learned to drink beer from. They were all the same 10 oz ones in BC, Alberta and Ontario. Were these glasses a Nova Scotia thing, or were they the standard in all the Maritime provinces?

They do look small, but they were always ordered in pairs. I believe it was about $0.40 a glass in Ontario in 1976, but only a quarter a glass in Alberta the same year. (I have never been so rich, on the beer scale, as then. I was making $5/hr, and beer was a quarter a glass.)

Except in New Zealand, where the standard order was a jug of beer - per person! No lie, the standard order in 1978 was a jug each, I think it was a liter, and a glass to drink it from. The first liter went down pretty quick, maybe 20 - 25 minutes? The second took a little longer. I understand this was a holdover from licensing laws that shut the pubs at 6:00 pm, so the guys would come in off work and guzzle as much as they could. It was called "the six o'clock swill." The beer was sweet, low fizz, and low in alcohol, so this wasn't quite the epic boozing that it might sound, but none the less, half way through the second pitcher, it was a bit of a stagger to where you could "recycle" your beverage.

My college memory (early 70's), in a bar called the Tin & Lint. Happy hour had the "dollar's worth": 2 shots of well liquor & 2 12 oz. Genny draft for $1. Couple/3 bucks & you had a good start on the evening!

I'll take some of the recipe in the OP please!

ETA: How could I forget? Nastygansett GIQs (40 oz - Imperial Quart) 3 for 99 cents at the Putney Store.
