The only unusual part is the lateness of the heat. The end of August should not be creeping on 110...

Normally fairly dry, thankfully, but occasionally with some humidity.

It still ain't squat compared to a real desert. Shoot JOP loves where it gets to 120 (49)! Also, the real desert down south of us gets HOT!

Here is a weird factoid. The lowest point in the contiguous US, and the highest are about 150 miles apart, and both here in California. Mt. Whitney, see, is just on the edge of Death Valley.

You want to talk hot? Google Badwater UltraMarathon. Dude I know won one year. He trained by driving around in the summer here with his windows up and the car heater on full blast.:)

I never complain about the heat after 52 years of Polar Vortex's, Blizzards and Frozen Pipes.

Well, one day the weather will change, I hope. You should see the "Sweater Losing Days" period, Spin. That is chilly overnights and warm days. Just about recess time you take off your sweater and leave it somewhere. :)

Honestly, I fnd our winters to be the best. They are mild, though cold. :)

Okay. I just got hit by large drops of very cold rain!

Seriously.

A series of clouds is passing over and dumping spatters of heavy, cold drops of rain...

I am bugged out. This is very unusual.

While the west coast has roasted all summer, we have had what would be considered by Virginia standards very mild weather.

There have been fewer days over 90f this year than any year in recent memory. The humidity that is usually so oppressive has not been to bad either.

I feel for those folks out west who aren't use to extreme temps. Here they are considered par for the course most years.

15-20 days over 110 are par for the course here. In June and July. For us to be near 110 in, let's face it, September, is what's crazy. Just late to be so hot. My pepper plants are confused. :)

Funny how California is. we took out the spare blanket last night as the temperature dropped into the 50s once the cold fog came in.

Well, Ted, if I lived IN the Bay, I'd probably be chilly, too. :D The Boss was in Walnut Creek last night. She told me how pleasant it was up there.

I was too sweaty to care about sweater weather. :)

Yesterday at 1530 it was 116 degrees, according to the thermometer in my car. I can only recollect a single day in my experience that was hotter; a 117 degree day in late September in inland SoCal. The Santa Ana winds.

It is cooler today but Friday is predicted to be the hottest day yet.

The thermometer in your car? I typically rely on more accurate instruments to measure.

Depending upon which set of "rules" one subscribes to, its the last day of winter here in New Zealand. Its 9 am as I write, and the temp is a nice 15 deg C, will rise to about 18deg c later in the day. Tomorrow by the same rules will be the first day of spring, the daffodils and snowdrops are out, the birds are arguing over territory, the fruit trees are in flower and there are both lambs and calves in the fields.
The "other rules" say that the first day of spring is the day after the spring equinox, thats another 3 weeks away.
Either way, winter is on its last legs here.

We can only work with the tools we have on hand at any given time. Suffice it to say that it was a particularly hot day.

Werd.
The temp on your car thermometer is fairly localized, though. A parking lot and a shady pasture would give different readings, even if geographically close.
A permanently mounted thermometer, say, on your place somewhere would be a better, more consistent measure for you, is all.
