Hi everyone,

After much thinking/reading I'm finally starting this Monday on my build of the #204 design.
The only thing for now that still confuses me is the wood for the frames and keel. In the plans they speak of 'pine'.. that's rather unspecified.

The types that I can buy are Douglas, Pitchpine and Southern Yellow Pine. Which wood should you recommend?

Thanks!
Nick

I think the wood selection reflects Gartside's encouragement to use locally available, sustainable timbers. I would recommend looking up the properties of what's available to you and getting the best timber that you can for the application. That includes evaluating what the books say and what is actually on the rack at your lumber dealer. Douglas Fir is a good wood for building, but it's not all created equally.

Should we do our own googling to see what a 204 is?
Strip, gluelap, carvel,molded?

FWIW this may be a #204 hull with an inboard: http://i63.tinypic.com/6edefb.jpg

Siberian larch is sometimes avalible in Europe. Otherwise, Pinus sylvestris is a common choice in Scandinavia.

Looking forward to your build!
