Obviously being white the use of the word has no effect on me but watching movies and music videos it seems to be used quite often, the liberals that are screaming outrage against their own probably are just seeking attention. Is anyone really offended by a word unless it's used by a loved one?
So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?

So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
I really like him and watch often, do you think he should get a pass considering this is exactly what he has been complaining about?

What word?Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.Comment

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
I heard that exchange. He actually managed a bit of self-denigration in his use of two stereotypes more recognized and understood by black people than by whites. But it's a great occasion for manufactured outrage from all those Righties who were down with the Birther lies and saw graphics of Obama being lynched as vigorous free speech.Comment

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
You could be right in general.
I happen to have many rightwing FaceBook contacts and they are all over this with demands that Bill Maher be fired. Judging from how they write about it with all the accuracy of Trump on the Mayor of London, it's clear they did not see the episode. From these righties, it's manufactured pseudo-outrage.
Liberals are more used to being offended by Maher. His basic gig is to offend liberals in ways the right never quite gets. That's why is college bookings have become a problem.
Maher's solid liberal audience is made up of people like myself who like to imagine that we're not like those more lily livered liberals. We're the real manly, womanly, transly liberals.Comment

So, considering the above is true, was his use of the word OK?
I believe it was fine in context and anyone that is offended is just looking for recognition.Comment

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
I'm not a fan of Maher, and have doubts about delecta watching.
The 'Black Commentariat' aren't too happy with him over his latest comment, and haven't been in a while, for his willingness to throw blacks under the bus in his support for Hillary, who many black people don't like.
Why a guy who's been yipping about Religionists being anti-science gets to, continually, spout his 'big pharma' conspiracy b.s. and show support for 'anti-vaxxers' is beyond the pale.
I think he needs to GTFO Dodge.Comment

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
It is with real delight that I agree with delecta here.
The whole point of Bill Maher is that only idiots think that he's always just right. He's not. We don't always know what's a considered opinion and what's mot of the moment. I doubt Maher always knows. And on some things like Islam he's at the minimum not insightful or nuanced enough to be taken seriously, but he's right-on to be taken provocatively.Comment

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
Why would you doubt me watching, I really like him going way back to Politically Incorrect. The blacks he threw under the bus would happily throw themselves under the bus considering. I think he gets a pass and should rightly so, saying the "N" word is hardly a game changer.Comment

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
Title: Bill Maher Draws Backlash for Using the N-Word on ‘Real Time’
Late-night host Bill Maher drew backlash Friday when he said the n-word during a live taping of his HBO show "Real Time."
The comedian used the racial slur during an exchange with Sen. Ben Sasse, after the congressman invited the 61-year-old to visit him in Nebraska.
"You're welcome," he said. "We'd love to have you work in the fields with us."
"Work in the fields?" Maher responded sarcastically. "Senator … I'm a house n*****."

Re: So, does Bill Mahar get a pass?
I find it appalling that so many no longer believe in the principle of free speech. Much as I dislike Limbaugh, I was against the idea of him being fired for anything he said.
Thousands of people are shot in this country every year and die. Many children. Some are even shot by children, but that brings less outrage than a comedian making a joke that offends some. People who make their living telling jokes run the risk of going 'over the line' now and then. The world won't end. No one will die.
Where in the constitution do we have the right to never be offended by what others say. It is the offensive speech that needs protection, which is why we have the first amendment.
That said, Who has made more offensive comments than our sitting president. Why DOES HE GET A PASS?"Banning books in spite of the 1st amendment, but refusing to regulate guns in spite of "well regulated militia' being in the 2nd amendment makes no sense. Can't think of anyone ever shot by a book
