In the late 80s and early 90s he used to play in a bar down the street from me, some of the best music I've ever heard in a small venue.

You beat me to it Jim. Among my collection of opera and chamber music is this one track of Whammer Jammer.

I just heard a live interview from him a few days ago. I think he was gearing up to lead Tom Petty this summer. Have you ever needed a pick-me-up on your way home from work, and the J. Geils Band comes over the radio? Damn.

A small tangential note, lead vocalist Peter Wolf was once married to Faye Dunaway. Weird.

I rode my bike over to the "Rainbow Tree"; it was a little record/head shop/water bed store and bought my older brother "Freeze Frame" for his birthday.

I'd saved my paper route money. I remember how scandalous the song "Centerfold" was at the time.
