View Full Version : Yanmar 3HMF (or 3GM) front engine lifter conundrum

Hi.
Can anyone sneak a peek at their 3HM or GM? My engine had the front engine lifter held down by cylinder head nut (#8), but this seems inconsistent with the yanmar parts list and exploded assembly views. Can you let me know if it is indeed held down by the head nut, or if it is stacked on top with another nut as the Yanmar drawings suggest?
Thanks.

I may have answered my own question from digging on the web, though I'd still like to know what y'all have. From pictures, it seems the engine lift (gear cover end) is held down by a second nut on top of the cylinder head nut. These pics are consistent with Yanmar documentation. So, I can't say what happened on my engine, but I'll be reverting to the factory docs. It was weird that the head nut would have been dual purposed like that. Funny thing, though, is that the fuel line bracket will now be a skoach higher - don't know if this is a good thing or not. Maybe my fuel lines were being pulled lower than they ought to have been. Anyway, if you can, it would be great to know your setup.
Web pics (look at the engine lift nuts):

Yep, that's what threw me off. Someone secured the lifter using the head nut on my engine. Struck me as bad form. Thanks!
