1806: Explorers Merriwether Lewis & William Clark left their lodgings at Fort Clatsop, near Astoria, Oregon... headed out on the long trek back to Washington, D.C.

1933: The once-proud German Reichstag passed the Enabling Act - giving Hitler dictatorial powers.

Figures that Lewis and Clark would leave just as the weather might get a bit better

I've read their journals for the time they stayed the winter in my 'backyard'. Miserable dampness. Couldn't get anything dry. Clothes rotted. Food rotted. Amazing there weren't a bunch of murders and suicides. A tough lot, they were.
