Trump Tries to Read a Book
An epic quest that echoes through time.
By Katy Waldman

ďWell, you know, I love to read. Actually, Iím looking at a book, Iím reading a book, Iím trying to get started. Every time I do about a half a page, I get a phone call that thereís some emergency, this or that. But weíre going to see the home of Andrew Jackson today in Tennessee and Iím reading a book on Andrew Jackson. I love to read. I donít get to read very much, Tucker, because Iím working very hard on lots of different things, including getting costs down. The costs of our country are out of control. But we have a lot of great things happening, we have a lot of tremendous things happening.Ē óDonald Trump to Fox Newsí Tucker Carlson, March 15, 2017

What an ignorant stupid man..

I donít get to read very much, Tucker, because Iím working very hard on lots of different things, including getting costs down. The costs of our country are out of control.

It costs $3 million every time he flies down to his Mar-a-Lago resort. Recent figures show that four important services, facing elimination under proposed cuts, could be maintained at the cost of President's visits to his private Florida resort over four years,

That's the part that just baffles me. Do his supporters not see the news at all? Or do they really think that Fox and Brietbart are telling them the truth and that's all they need? How can they listen to Trump for even two minutes and not realize he is just about the worst example of a human that the species has to offer? I don't get it.

He's so smart. He could just write all the books. But that would take days. So he hires the very best book writers, and now to make the plan really really great he's going to hire some really wonderful, just tremendous book readers, to read all the fabulous books his expert book writers write. Not like Obama. Did you see Angela Merkel's haircut. She reads books all the time but no one wants to read her a bedtime story. So sad.

He is not acting. The clip you show is 37 years old & while he may have been fairly sharp then* - he is no longer. Dissipated is the term that comes to my mind. IOW - 35+ years of work hard/party hard will take its toll.

* I met & talked to him in that time frame (actually a few years later) & while he was reasonably sharp, I would not have described him as all that bright. The person with me said something along the lines of "He's nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is".

He's sharp enough to be a billionaire and President of the USA. How sharp does that chisel need to be? The point being is that he is not an idiot, perhaps most posters here will not understand that but they probably use dull tools.

He's a billionaire because of daddy (& in spite of his iffy business decisions & 4 bankruptcies - which were mostly to stiff subcontractors). Yes, he's smart enough to be president I guess - but a more accurate way to put it would be that too many voters were stupid enough to vote for the sleaze.

The whole "he's rich, so he must be smart" argument really doesn't hold water. I know quite a few rich individuals. Several of them are anyting but smart. Some are very hard workers, some just got lucky. There isn't one of them I'd vote for.

Jim Mahan
03-18-2017, 07:29 PM
If that prsn is so smart, why would he not behave as if he were? And why would he not then appeal to the whole contingent of voters, including the smart ones, rather than just the easily manipulated, gullible, forgotten, flyover deplorables? That doesn't seem too smart, even if he did pull the fleece over the former group.

The quote below isn't from a news pundit or anyone famous or accomplished, that I can tell, but it makes some interesting points. My bolding at the end of the quote.

He’s not saying. He will never share a test score if he every takes a test. No one knows. He probably doesn’t know. He doesn’t WANT to know. But I don’t see how it could be over 110. It’s probably about average, at 100.

IQ is not the only measure of brain power. It’s a specific type of measure, that was first created to measure how fast students can learn. It measures only one very specific human mental trait. There are many others.

Trump has a level of success in life that many dream of, but never achieve. So they assume he “must be smart” to get where he is. And they translate that into the idea he must have a high IQ. But that’s just not true. Few people with a high IQ gain such success in life. Few people with a high IQ CHOOSE to struggle for what Trump calls “success”. Most People with a high IQ, choose a very different life than what Trump has created for himself. Having a high IQ generally PREVENTS one from choosing the endless search for narcissistic self aggrandizing Trump has chosen for himself.

Nobody I’ve never known, or heard about, with a high IQ, speaks at the level of 5th grader like Trump. NOBODY. His language skills are not that of a high IQ individual, even though it’s true, that IQ and language skills are not the same.

IQ measures how fast a person can learn new concepts (on their own), without being told by others. It’s a measure of how quickly a person can grasp complex abstract ideas. IQ is a type of measure that focuses on abstract thinking skill; on big picture thinking skills; On creativity. Trump shows none of these traits.
But there’s a trait that is amazingly strong in Trump. And you can understand that trait by reading the Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/8435.Norman_Vincent_Peale). The book published in 1952 that explains all you need to know about Trump. It’s a life philosophy of self fulfillment by bending your view of reality. Dream big, and it will make you big. See your success as real, and your success will follow. Normal Vincent Peale wasn’t just a self help author. He was a Church Preacher. The church that Trump was taken to as a boy. Trump grew up, listening to religious sermons, on the power of positive thinking, and he’s clearly shaped his entire life around that.

He’s so believes in his own success, that he’s learned how to talk, to make others believe in it as well. And that is is one and ONLY magic power. His ability to make people BELIEVE he’s a success.

There is no evidence that he actually runs any of his complex businesses. There is no evidence he actually understands the complex financial complexity of his real estate empire. There is only evidence, that he is very good at talking others into doing the work for him, and talking others, into believing anything with the Trump name, will be a success. He’s the world’s greatest self promoting con man, and nothing else.

His IQ, I would place at 110 MAX. And If I had to pick a number for a bet, it would be 100.

It's a fact, Trump has the vocabulary of a 6th grader.

No ,I just do not resort to ad hominums as a debate tactic.

You don't resort to facts either.

Odd , before he became a republican people liked him.

You know this isn't true.

As just ONE of many anecdotes, you'll remember that Spy magazine rode him like a pony throughout the 80s and early 90s. When he was a pro-choice gun control Democrat, wantung to be noticed and loved by the Clintons and all the Hollywood stars.

You'd think this might worry his supporters. What's to prevent him from pivoting back? He's shown over & over that he can about-face with the best (worst) of 'em.

No, actually the dislike of Trumps goes back over the generations:

Woody Guthrie didn't like Daddy Trump:
OLD MAN TRUMP
Words by Woody Guthrie, Music by Ryan Harvey

I suppose that Old Man Trump knows just how much racial hate
He stirred up in that bloodpot of human hearts
When he drawed that color line
Here at his Beach Haven family project

Beach Haven ain't my home!
No, I just can't pay this rent!
My money's down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trumpís Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain't my home!

I'm calling out my welcome to you and your man both
Welcoming you here to Beach Haven
To love in any way you please and to have some kind of a decent place
To have your kids raised up in.

Beach Haven ain't my home!
No, I just can't pay this rent!
My money's down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trumpís Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain't my home!

She wouldn't fit in any ''leftist'' party here but easily into our conservative party. She's centre right by our standards.

I want to know whether President Trump has made any progress with his book.

You know, he's busy and stuff.

If he had half a brain he would have led with the comment that he is too busy to read. Instead he realized that he was caught when he claimed that he had read half a page of some book with no name and he tried to back peddle. The man cannot tell a coherent story that is not in conflict with earlier tales. And he has told so many falsehoods that he can't even keep them straight.
