    A new favourite scotch

Thank you Lew Barrett for the introduction!
But I did think you a rum drinker. . .

I suppose it will do until a decent malt comes along

    Only kidding, lovely stuff.

My best man bought me a bottle for my 40th birthday - lovely stuff.

            Yeah, that one's good stuff.

What are you doing about it?

Not my favorite, but it's a good one.

That looks like a good way to get me singing sad old country songs and fingerpicking the uke...

About two sips. What? I don't drink much.

                Peace,

I used to buy that by the case. They do a different take on that called Caribbean Cask, finished in rum barrels, goes real good with a stiff Maduro.....

I'm really stuck on the Islay whiskys, my favorite being Caol Ila. But this 10 year old Laphroaig is really close, and cheaper...

What is a poor retired working man to do when you guys post stuff like that?
There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.

                        Suffer!

The Balvenie is a lovely drop. If you like that, you might also enjoy the Glenmorangie series of whiskies finished in different sorts of casks. I think they started the trend. They have a 4 bottle set, nice for a visiting gift.

There's always American whiskey, but I guess that's little help down there. Must be some good EnZed whiskey to drink?

Aged in milk tanks. Sounds like a winner!

Actually, I think the Crown actively discouraged distilling of spirits in NZ because whisky from Scotland and whiskey from Ireland were such valuable exports to NZ and Australia. At the start of WWII some ships hauled frozen lamb and mutton to the UK and returned with automobiles, manufactured goods, and spirits.

The Caol Ila is nice, but I took a Kilchoman for a a test drive this week, and now I'm conflicted.
I was tasked with getting our "disestablished" manager a farewell gift, after a whip around our department produced $250 - the Kilchoman 10th anniversary single malt fitted the budget. The nice people at http://www.whiskygalore.co.nz/ gave me a taster of one of their other slightly less "special" brews, and I have to say it was damn nice. It has a bit more body than the Caol Isla, a bit more peaty smoke, well worth a try if you can find it - they are just about the smallest Islay distillery on the planet, so who knows how much finds its way to the US.
