So, enticed by this thread on a potential boat project in Tasmania (http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?220035-Thought-s-on-this-boat) I spent some time on Gumtree, Australia's version of Craigslist. Big mistake. So many interesting boats! But this one in particular...

That boat has everything I like. And then there's this as well:

Nothing wrong with the Ford in the boat right now but I'd want the Gardner over it any day.

Not sure I could ever learn to love cricket but I'm a big fan of the Australian Open. And rugby looks like my kind of sport. Maybe it's time to pack it all up and try a new hemisphere.

Yes, I thought so. And a good price too. I'm not sure what the market is like down there but up here I think that boat would be a great deal, assuming she's not too rough in person. And thanks skuthorpe. It's tempting on some days right now, when things feel a bit like we are being undermined on all sides. On the beach at Dunkirk and no fleet of little ships to take us home (although not to disrespect those men - no one is actually shooting at me, so I'll keep some perspective). But no, I'm here for the duration. Sunny weather on an old fishing boat in Hobart is a fantasy, no more.

Yeah, when you spell it out like that I do wonder why I wouldn't rather be there than here! But I meant "no more" as in "nothing more than that" not, "no longer".

A pity !

Hmm.... $10,000 off if you buy the $120,000 fishing license. ;)

Last year I went to an ATM in Camden NSW and took out A$100. Later my statement showed the withdrawal as $70USD. Keep that nice exchange rate in mind when you look at those prices.

Trying to get rid of me Brian? ;) Yes, I did the math on the price. Too bad that boat isn't up here. Or, rather, good thing it's not. I already have one.

Huon pine is THE best boatbuilding timber, and she's probably copper fastened. Just sayin.

Stop already! Someone needs to buy that boat though.

Did you see he's also got a bit of waterfront land with boat sheds and a jetty for sale? Prince of Wales bay is pretty much central Hobart.

Yes. That's a dream setup right there.
