The Tinef, what kind of boat is it? The question pops up on several google searches but I cant find an answer.

The boat was named Tümmler (German forPorpoise) (http://www.einstein-website.de/z_biography/tuemmler-e.html) and was a centerboarder with a fractional Bermuda rig, about 23′ long with a beam of 7.7′ and a sail area of roughly 215 square feet. The boat had a 5hp engine, a galley stove, a head and berths for two.

Different boat. What I can glean from the internet, is his boat Tinif originated in Long island sound and moved (with Einstein) to Saranac lake. There is some written history of that but not many images online.
It has some similarity to a Winabout design (which I think was absorbed into the Town class) but is not exactly that, different combing and oarlock placement. Likely just a locally built sailing skiff, Lightly built, dory type lapstrake with a fore and aft bottom.
I learned to sail in boats like that and they were remainders from well before the war. Great little boats.
