So many times I've seen people launch boats and sure enough! they forget the plug!

I thankfully found a home for the moth dinghy I was about to cut up.

one of the parts I saved is the transom drain. I was told is unique and rare. I don't think it is, but here's a photo.

Seems to me it's easy to fix just about any pipe thread type of transom plug this way so it's never lost. drill and tap the plug and use a long machine screw and a cross piece. This happens to be bronze and pretty small. The plug is only 3/8" pipe thread. A piece of chain would work also but they tend to break off.

Are the threads left-hand on the keeper?

No it just had a locknut, could be brazed or soldered also, but LH threaded would be really nice for that !
