Love the whole bit behind dazzle paint jobs.

The thing is, did it work? Are there any contemporaneous German submarine logs saying ' we thought we had a bead on that sucker, but the paint job fooled us? '

Somewhat in WWI before radar. Dazzle was supposed to make the ships more visible, not camouflage at all. Rather, the dazzle paint was to make it harder to establish course and speed and thus harder to torpedo. Of this there is some statistical evidence - like a slightly smaller percent of ships were torpedoed amidships - but it might not have been the very best idea. The ships were still torpedoed.

An idea of the future whose time passed.

My favorite dazzle scheme, yet.

Tha baketweave mast was another odd idea about the same time. Shells were supposed to be able to pass through and leave them standing. It didn't work well, and they were too heavy. Twilight of the battlewagons.

Using a surplus Routemaster -sideways- as the bridge is inspired.

And there is this one. Sacrilege really, but that's Scousers for you BY:D

Dazzle Ship is a co-commission by 1418 NOW WW1 Centenary Art Commission, Liverpool Biennial and Tate Liverpool, in partnership with the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Renowned artist Carlos Cruz-Diez worked with the idea of dazzle using the historic Edmund Gardner pilot ship owned and conserved by the Merseyside Maritime Museum. The work has been realised by painters from Cammell Laird.
