Dear fellow forum folk,

Scot has been kind enough to lift my ban for past indiscretions. Thank you Scot!

I've read along a bit, now and then; recognize many of you and also see a lot of new names.

Politics. Whew. Glad that election is past! I'm saddened it came down to two such flawed human beings. Now is a time, I believe, to follow Voltaire's dictum and "Tend your own garden".

Me? I want to sail more, write more poetry and prose, love the people in my life better and more fully, and laugh more. Heavy on the laugh more. Life's too damn short to do otherwise.

Best,

Ishmael

Hello Jack. I've been out mostly myself (self imposed) working all those things you say above.

WOW  Ish a blast from the past !!!!!

How The hell are ya ?
Tell us what you've been up to, what's going on?

Ya know we've had our friendly forum tussles but seeing you come back its like an old warming of the heart, to a more nostalgic time. When navel gazing was elevated to an art form ;)

FWIW you were missed.

Hello.

Life has been life, ups and downs.

When brother died awhile back I inherited a fantastic place on a island in Lake Huron. I finally got back there this summer and came to the difficult decision to sell the place. Bill has been gone nine years, and this was my first time back. It's just too far away, so I've decided to consolidate here in Maine.

Been dating a real nice lady. She's my lawyer's secretary, which some might question the wisdom of, but it's perking along.

Been working on a book. It's just a lightly fleshed outline at this point. I've been deeply troubled by the divisions laid bare by this last election cycle, and the book(more glorified pamphlet and primer really) will explore the psychological underpinnings of that divisiveness. Topics to include: division in the personal psyche, projection out of the personal and collective unconscious, the introversion needed to find the opposites within oneself, healing those divisions so they don't end up willy nilly in the environment. Easy peasy, right? I have hope for it. Now, to get it down and make it readable.

"Easy reading is hard writing."

Hemingway

Anyhoo, thanks for the welcome back. I've missed your ugly mugs!

Regards,

Jack

I gotta ask, how long have you been gone?
It's been a few years anyway.

Jack,

Not sure how long, maybe a year and a few months?

I haven't followed closely enough to know about other folks banning, but I did my time. J

Welcome back Ish. Since you were gone I have retired after working for the federal gov't for 45 years and have moved to Florida. I know, this sounds a bit stereotypical but I'm now starting to really enjoy it.

I've been working on the outlines of a book myself.

A work of fiction.

So far... roughly... a young man and woman meet under difficult circumstances.

They fall in love amid external turmoil.

One of them dies tragically. And ironically.

I am sure, based on my drafts, Papa and Gertrude would encourage me to continue working (at my craft or at my day job remains unclear). :D
