We all did a lot of things as kids that turned us into woodenboat heads . . . .

When mechanicing (see verbalization thread) on my car, I used to always wash my tools in a bucket of gasoline with my bare hands, not to mention the times siphoning gas by mouth.

I did all three of those, although I never liked the residual smell of leaded gasoline on my hands. Perhaps the silliest was standing in my bare feet and swimsuit inside a homemade dinghy, and flood coating the entire interior with pentachlorophenol. 50 years later no problems that I'm aware of.:d

Early 50s shoe stores had x-ray machines. You could see your toe bones inside your shoes.

OK... OK... I did all them things, too. Except for the wading in penta.

And I got cancer.

Which the oncologist was adamant about: didn't have anything to do with any of that.

And rinsed my hands with acetone after using epoxy.

I just didn't do any of it often.

I consumed many sandwiches which consisted of Wonder bread, Piggly Wiggly brand baloney, Velveeta, and Miracle Whip.

Didn't tooth fillings contain lead at one time?

I just didn't do any of it often. I still do on occasion, but try to wear rubber gloves more often.

As for using lead for sinkers, the game warden around here would slap you with a hefty fine. Seems they're not good for the loons...

Around here, you can't use it in bird shot, either.

I believe it penetrates through the skin and is bad for the kidneys, or something like that.

Perhaps someone else can tell us both. I just remember getting told by friends in the glass boat business that it's a bad idea.

I use to shave with my dead uncles electric razor....till one day i felt it pricking my face...as I leaned to look closer at the little sparks jumping to my skin I put one hand on the faucet....I was knocked out and on the floor.Woke up with the family banging on the bathroom door.

What was the cause of your uncle's death?
