There is a new kayak launching ramp at the north end of the bathing beach. I don'r remember any time there was a regular launch ramp on the island. Trucks were banned for a long time--dunno if they still are--which would be problematic for a launch ramp.

Ya , I saw the new launch with the handicap access ...pretty nifty...now if they would just put a small horseshoe drive there to drop boats off instead crossing the road portaging.. trying to beat the traffic..that would be great.
The DYC was snooty as usual. When I called about the Viking ship event they asked me if I was a member. I told them I had friends there ..then they gave me the info on getting in....The Detroit News reported it was invitation only...plain to see by the lines that was false, I bowed out , i donít do well with lines. As I mentioned earlier I decided to brave the gales and sail out and around the club to look at the vessel. stupid me.
Thanks

Thanks The DYC was really snooty letting the Viking ship dock gratis for three days, escorting the crowds with volunteers and providing drinks and snacks for those standing in line. A U-shaped drive on a bathing beach might be a good idea, but the towels and people might get in the way of the boat launching.

you need a kayak for such adventures
let me know if you ever want to borrow one, kat and i have a few
kayaks make ideal boats for gawking at other boats from the water level at boat shows
twenty five pounds, throw it over your shoulder and launch where ever is convenient

ooh you know what Iím talking about. I asked the girl if the "Invitation ďin the paper was to keep the masses away and she replied , Yes.
I stood in line, must of been with the wrong group..no drinks or snacks.

I stood in line, must of been with the wrong group..no drinks or snacks. The club doesn't have parking for 3,000 people--they set up the parking off-site and you walked in. Dunno how the paper screwed up the information, but quite a crowd showed up.
