So, the molded wood hull of Intrepid postdates the steel of Rainbow? That surprises me.

12s were required to be wood at the time.

Really? I did not know that.

For a long time I thought Intrepid the pinnacle of 12 meter development. Then the Australians won and rewrote everything.

Have you seen what we did to the world water speed record... with a wooden boat. Still the record, IIRC.

By then, aluminum construction was allowed, later fiberglass was allowed as well.
