Surely, as a boat forum, we've got some favourite photos of the water, taken from a boat.

I'll kick it off with one I took last September, from a wooden boat, above the falls near Luang Prabang, in Laos

Geez, I knew you'd be in here Brian... :D

I can't believe how many of mine are of boats, but not from a boat

Here's a complying one

How about some moving mountain water.
There's a man and a dog in the front of the boat.

A buddy of mine running the sporty left line. I don't recall if we were eddied out in our boat to get the photos or on shore. This rapid no longer exists. It is now under water in a big slow moving pool with just a single tiny little green wavelet where this used to be. A spring blowout in a downstream side canyon deposited a mass of boulders and debris that backs the river up forming the pool. The blowout formed a new rapid that was pretty challenging in itself the first couple years. It's settling in now but we still scout it.
Moving mountains.

I was pretty happy at the time. I'd just had a Manta Ray that I was following do a loop underneath me and come up behind me for a look at me. We were several kilometres offshore of Komodo Island and were talking to the crew on our boat and mentioned that we'd heard of Manta Rays in the area. "Oh, would you like to see?" said one of them. 20 minutes later... we were in the water with them. Of course, the boat was chugging along behind us... and we were getting dragged along by it to catch up from time to time. Not a lot of OH&S.... hanging onto the ladder, watching the prop churning away.

My mate got a nice shot of one of the Manta Rays

btw, I particularly liked those reflections photos. Great stuff.

Here's another one from 5 years ago (heh, heh... I've got tens of thousands of unseen crappy photos).... not all as bad as this one

This was a particularly memorable boat ride. From Lombok out to Gili Trawangan. Most westerners take the big, fast boats direct from Bali to there. I left my bike on Lombok and took one of the small local boats. I was the only foreigner on board, the rest were Indonesians.

We shipped a bit of water... kids started screaming, mums started to look worried... one of the dads handed around life jackets. Crew took it all in their stride.

I've been working on a video of a temple complex and some archeological dig sites. I visited the temple in 2012 and again earlier this year. Here's a couple of on-water shots from both occasions.

First up, with the bike, on a car ferry, waiting for a bike ferry to pull alongside and line up a plank so that I can ride on in order to cross the Mekong River

There's no tying up, no securing the plank.... just ride on.

Miss... or he slips with the boat... and you drown. Something about motorcycle boots, armour and helmets just doesn't work when you have to swim

Pretty much the same place again, this year. Photo taken from the car ferry... waiting for a loaded up truck to get aboard.

Two Vietnamese-origin kids (at an educated guess) in Cambodia, on the Tonle Sap lake. This is several kilometres from the nearest land with a major storm building.

Another old one of mine I'd never looked at. This is one of the floating villages on Tonle Sap (which is huge btw 1,000 square mile minimum to 6,000 sq miles during the wet season, ie about 80% the size of Lake Ontario, during the wet). People are scurrying around, preparing for the approaching storm. The teepee-like pole structures are anchors for the floating houses

I recall getting quite sunburnt on the day I took these. The boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap was a bit nasty... an enclosed metal tube, but it did have an outside deck, where I spent most of the day. I took these two as we passed a remote floating village, way out in Tonle Sap... out of the sight of any land for quite a while. The kid in the basin was just classic

He obviously had skills, as we seem to have caused some problems for the lady in the boat with the baby and toddler, a few moments later

The lad in the tin coracle is brilliant.

I like it too. It's unusual behaviour, like that, that make me want to go back and tootle around some of the backblocks, rather than blasting through on the big transport boat.

I had this boat to myself, the year before. Well, myself and the couple of crew members. I got to drive back from the flooded forest... was at the wheel when I took this one

I have a few (dozen) more from Tonle Sap. This one's cropped in a bit... and I was shooting JPEG at the time, so it doesn't stand the cropping too well, but I do like his stance. Before I cropped it, I thought he was sitting

Nice waterway, that.... and yes, my friend was somewhat safety concious. He was somewhat worried about the crocs and when I suggested we land on a small island... he got a bit concerned.

Speaking of islands, this was on a Euro ferry that was a gift from Germany, now doing service on the Atauro Island run. We did a day trip, out and back from Dili, Timor-Leste. From wiki:

Atauro Island (also Ilha de Atauro, Ata'uro) is a small island situated 25 km north of Dili (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dili), East Timor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Timor), on the extinct Wetar segment of the volcanic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcano) Inner Banda Arc, between the Indonesian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia) islands of Alor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alor_Island) and Wetar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetar). Politically it comprises one of the subdistricts of the Dili District (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dili_District) of East Timor. It is about 25 km long and 9 km wide, about 105 km2 in area, and is inhabited by about 8,000 people. The nearest island is the Indonesian island of Liran (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liran), 12 km to the northeast.

OK, a confession.... these aren't taken from a boat... they are from my bedroom window when I was in Hua Hin (the scene of the recent bombings in Thailand). However, my room was at the end of a jetty that was over water - for half the time. When the tide was out, like here, the water was a few metres away. This is the sunrise from my room

This one's a bit of a failure. It's 3 (of 5) shots for a panorama... but with the waves in close, they didn't stitch very well due to movement. Still nice from afar

Here's another one of those Asian ferries. This was across a river to get me into the Cardamom Mountains in southwest Cambodia... looking for the hidden 600+ year old teak coffins up in the jungle (which I got to see). The kids, on their way home from school, hang around until someone comes along and pays to go over to the other side.

How about some oldies? I just scanned some in from the Australian Tornado Nationals, held over Christmas / New Year in 1980-81.

This is me on helm, with Chris, who stood in as crew after Di got a bit nervous about talk of cyclones coming.

A bit of start line action. The white boat, Daring, closest to camera is the eventual champion, Brian Lewis / Phil Snook on Renegade, in the background with the trapeze action happening is Chri\s Jennings and Julian Melling on Renegade, which came 3rd in the series. The reigning world champ, Randy Smyth (8th) was also competing, along with some other hotshots. I managed a mid-fleet(ish) result - 18th of 33 boats - and only 4 places behind a former world champ, which I was pretty stoked about, with the second oldest boat in the fleet.

OK... so not a water photo... but this is Ellis Beach... a bit north of Cairns, where we rigged before heading out to the racing. They dragged the beach with a net and came out with a few box jellyfish... which'll kill yer, so we all sailed in neck to toe gear.

No-one was happy with the light breezes. We sail in much heavier stuff over here normally. Just looking at this next shot, I'm pretty sure it's the first time I ever sailed with a lifevest on, which was required by the committee.

Showing off my anti-jellyfish calico pants. Some guys sailed in pantyhose... which are excellent protection against the stingers. My crew, Chris, was a local and he'd once had a stray tentacle across his forearm during a race... resulting in emergency hospitalisation and a LOT of pain

I'm cheating again... these are water photos taken from above a boat. I just spotted these drone shots from last February. Taken beside one of the main east-west highways connecting Laos to Vietnam (pretty sure it's Highway 8 at Tha Bak, west of Lak Xao), it shows a "bombie boat" next to a traditional planked wooden boat. Both powered by small rat-tail motors, the bombie boat one is above it on the bank.

The bombie boat is built from USAF drop tanks.
