Laos knows how to do it....

Propose the candidate... put up their posters and details... hold the election.

Select any 8 out of these 10 candidates that we have chosen for you to choose.

"that we have chosen for you"
It seems it's the same everywhere.

Heh heh... slight difference in Laos. There's only one party doing the selections... and no-one else gets to stand. They've done well though... the people have choice.

Ha ha.... do you think they'd like calling the army out too? I posted half a dozen photos in the droning thread yesterday... when we got out of the hills, back onto the main roads, near Pak Mong and then all the way through Oudomxay, up to the Chinese border and then back over to the Thai border at Huay Xai, there were soldiers camps every few kilometres along the way.... with armed troops patrolling the roads. Couple of cars got shot up on the road we were on a fortnight or so ago... people killed. Seems to be election-related. Our "travel safely" website... or whatever it's called says "exercise normal precautions". Hmm... normal precautions, travel in an armoured vehicle?

That DOES take a bit of mental gymnastics... do they acknowledge "private poverty"?

I'm still stuck on INDEPENCE DEMORACY

....

Funny thing was I tried to organise a massage there. There was a tourism poster with a description of how visitors are often welcomed with a massage. When I asked where I could get one, there was sign language about sirens, police, handcuffs... etc (I did say massage, btw.... no euphemisms intended... but that seems to be how its received in that part of the country)
