Oh man! That's a super bummer. He was a really good guy. I talked history with him all night long on his tour bus once. And stayed in touch with him for quite a while later by email. Without the crowds around he was not at all what you might expect him to be like. Just a super cool dude.

RIP.

Utterly amazed he lived that long. He must have been a genetic freak.

I agree with Betty-B, I met him a couple of times and he was a genuinely decent bloke. RIP.

From the BeeB:

Lemmy died at home in Los Angeles on Monday, two days after learning he had cancer.
<snip.>
Todd Singerman, Motorhead's manager, told the BBC News channel that Lemmy had had cancer "in his brain and neck" and that his sudden death had come as "a massive shock".
He said the singer died while sitting in front of his favourite video game with his family.

He was great in 'Eat The Rich'.

Aged 21, I attended a Motorhead concert for the first time in 1984, at the Mayfair in Newcastle.

They were remarkably loud.

The following day, I travelled to Manchester for a hearing test as part of my induction into the BBC. It was the usual 'tap the button when you hear the tone' sort of thing.

I could hear nothing. My button remained untapped.

As the test came to an end, the specialist conducting it asked (quite loudly, I suppose) if I knew that I was profoundly deaf.

I asked her if the test had started, then told her where I'd been the night before, upon which she gave me a brief lecture about 'temporary threshold shift', and passed me as ok. :-)

The only time I met him was at the Apollo in Glasgow - December 74 with Hawkwind.

A fairly vague memory.

A fairly vague memory.

If Stacia had been a bit "exuberant" you might well be understandably vague about all sorts of aspects of the evening.

Somehow this song seems appropriate.
