My boys and I spent a day at the Cleveland Art Museum with my wife last week as a Christmas present.
She has an art degree and the boys thought it would be a good gift to spend a day doing something she really likes.

The Cleveland Art Museum is having a special exhibit about Monet and other garden artists, it was very nice even for an engineer.
After visiting the art Museum we went to the famous Slyman's restaurant for corn beef sandwiches.

Believe it or not Cleveland was once a very wealthy city and we have some great Museums.
The Art Museum is ranked #6 in the US.

I think the City started to go down hill once I moved into the area.:)

Nice present!

My mom used to work for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History (just before WW2 - she grew up in Shaker Heights) & had great stories to tell. I went to many other museums when out there as a kid. Cleveland has gotten a bad rap for many years, but it's really a city with a lot to offer.

That is a great present! Where is that museum? Never mind, I can find out myself. I try to get to Cleveland at least once per year. I might take a day there myself. You never know.

The Art Museum is in an area east of downtown called University Circle.
The area also has the Natural History Museum, The Crawford Museum (home of the sailboat Tinkerbell) and Cleveland Gardens.

Here are the directions from Downtown Tower City.
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Tower+City+Center,+230+West+Huron+Road,+Cleveland, +OH+44113/41.5099994,-81.6116127/@41.5028032,-81.651774,13.25z/data=!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x8830f07f1ec04a5b:0x748 5f64088433696!2m2!1d-81.694049!2d41.497226!1m0!2m2!7e2!8j1451308680!3e3 !5i2?hl=en

Other closer to downtown things to do.
1. North Coast Harbor with the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, the Science Museum or take a walking tour of the ore ship William G. Mather.
2. Ohio City - Just across the river you will find the West Side Market.

I visited the museum when I was 12. I recall seeing a streamlined pedal car. I loved the fact that a child's plaything was on display in an art museum. I've loved museums ever since. I learned later, thanks to google, that it was a creation of Cleveland's Viktor Schrekengost.

Should have went to Morton's Steakhouse.
I live in Lorain, 30 miles West of Cleveland.

Just a little advice about giving gifts.
Don't take people to places YOU what to go to.
Instead take people to where THEY what to go to.

In this case we asked my wife where she wanted to go and SHE picked Slyman's restaurant.

I grew up in Cleveland. (Chagrin Falls area).

That is probably the one of the best free art museums outside of the Smithsonian in DC.

Did you get to see the Impressionist exhibit?
