Hi Everyone,

Ive recently acquired a Freeman 30 motorcruiser with a Wooden Superstructure /deck.
The small deck area at the Bow is marine ply.
The top surface of the ply has gone very grany (very small ridges) and there are dark patches which could be moisture perhaps..
The varnish has split in places above this.
What can i do to remedy the problem and make it look nice?
Im new to wooden boats so any advice would be greatly appreciated..

regards,

Nick

Pictures always help ...

But as the owner of a ply boat, sounds like water has penetrated to make it 'rough.'

Is the wood soft? That's the first thing to check.

Also, there would be signs below if water was getting through.

If it has begun to 'rot,' it may be more than superficial ... i.e. deck beams and/or frames need to be poked and checked.

If you can provide any pictures that would help, as mentioned earlier.

Any other details would also help.

I know when I had spots like that on my deck, it had already begun to 'attack' deck beams, etc.
