Extra special forces, with different rules of engagement are to be sent into Iraq and IS controlled areas.

"United States Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has said the US will deploy "specialised" troops to Iraq to help fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) group.Speaking to the House Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, the Pentagon chief said that a "specialised expeditionary targeting force" was being deployed to help Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
"In full coordination with the government of Iraq, we're deploying a specialised expeditionary targeting force to assist Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces and to put even more pressure on ISIL," Carter said on Tuesday."

An "Expeditionary Force" or so it is being referred to here.
Great care will have to be taken with the increased risk of 'friendly fire' with the Russians in the area as well.

Don't like it. But better than the McCain/Graham call for 50,000 gyrenes back in that hellhole.

I don't like it either.

There is a meme both in horror movies and in the sprawling Rambo genre where the characters go out to challenge the antagonist singly.

They all die.

This 'new' mission is BS.

There are ~50K daesh.

Send at least 10/1, or 500,000 troops.

At least.

Don't like it. But better than the McCain/Graham call for 50,000 gyrenes back in that hellhole. That will just be a start. Eisenhower first sent in military Advisors, no one even twitched. JFK sent in qa few troops few people twitched. LBJ escalated the war and finally people noticeably. twitched. Then comes Nixon promising to end the war and he was elected.

Thanks, Bill.

If we sent everything we've got, along with the rest of the civilized world, and maintained an insane level of surveillance and security, we could likely get it finished for about half a trillion.

Daesh really wouldn't stand a chance.

As it is, we continue to play by their rules and send people to the slaughter in dribs and drabs.

ISIS has no designated country they are everywhere even in countries like the US, not in large numbers but, here. It's like trying to coral an amoeba. Hit them in one area and like squeezing a balloon it pushes up on the other side of it.

Finally, an honest to God historian!:) It's amazing to find a person who can take a very complex issue like Vietnam and boil it down to a few lines.

I wnt to google and looked at the Vietnam time line. No mention of Truman sending advisors, there was a mention of Eisenhower doing so. I'd like a link that refutes what has been written Donn.

That's nit picking. Advise the use and distribution of war matterials. Sorry, to me, that's a stretch. I'm thinking from a military perspective'; advising the Vietnam troops directly. Truman is just safe guarding how they supervise the goods sent there to make sure they go where they were intended. Secondly, it, the weapons were probably sent to the French who didn't "bug off" until 1954.

Yup, like your belief that the blacks came to this country as indentured servants and NOT slaves in 1619.. You obviously don't know what you're talking about either. So, don't come over so bloody high and mighty. Donn. It's unbecoming not that this matters to you.

Hard to discuss anything with someone who thinks he's is sooo puuurfect and ALWAYS right regardless. Must be hard to find friends too unless they agree with him. Glad your counting my posts Donn. Gives you something to do.

I don't have a link for it but look up Dien Bien Phu on wiki and I believe you'll find two US pilots KIA, 1954 they were working for the
CIA at the time.
