The great New Zealand rugby player has died suddenly at 40

He pulled out of rugby with kidney disease and had a successful transplant.

Power x speed x mass x controlled aggression The greatest rugby player I've ever seen. He ran through England, several times. He was unforgetable. I've never seen his like before or since.

Heart attack brought on by the state of his kidneys. Terrible shock and loss.

Thanks for the clips.

Saw him first at the HK Sevens in '94. I agree - the greatest player I have seen - or will see. The other greats I have seen are Campese as a winger, in the older style, and, playing a different position, Serevi. Like Serevi, a devout Christian - he would spend a moment in private prayer before each game, and what he was actually praying for, we learn from one who overheard him, was that he would not hurt anybody.
