View Full Version : Shop Vac - Fein Turbo II vs Fein Turbo III

I've read the previous posts regarding shop vacs and I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on the Fein Turbo II vs Fein Turbo III.

I'd like to be able to make my new shop as dust free as possible. I do have the option for a real dust collection system but would rather have the ability to put the vac where it's needed wether it be at the bench, next to the table saw, or out in the yard sanding bottom paint.

Can't really say, but I think the III has a larger dia hose, and that's a good thing.

Pete, if your setting up your shop then I'd go for both, that is one of the Feins and a good dust collection system. One doesn't really replace the other. The Fein hooked to sanders and the like will take the majority of that dust out as its generated. I have the Turbo II and will probably buy the new III next. I also have a PowerMatic dust collector and a hanging air filter. With all that I still have alot of dust in the shop. Theres no way that the Fein, as good as it is, can keep up with the volume of larger machines like planers, jointers, or even the table saw if your doing much work. They all work together. If you can only get one thing first then go for the Turbo III as it does have a bigger canister..You could couple it with a bulk container in line to gather the heavier stuff. When it comes time to buy the dust collector , get one with one of the bigger motors and perhaps a double bag if you have the room. Over size it to fit your shop....good luck.

My two cents: Whatever you do, do not buy a vacuum with a 1 1/2"hose. Buy one that uses the 2" hose.

I have used both and it is unbelievable how much more often the 1 1/2" hose will clog compared to 2"

I have the Turbo III and it has been great.
Size may be the only *potential* issue. It just takes up more space. For sanding operations, smaller may be easier. For everything else - bigger is better. IMHO.

Pete- why collect your dust? Blow it outside and you never see it again. I've addapted electric leaf blowers to this purpose. Hook suction side to dust chute on your equipment. rig 4" steel duck from nozzle side to nearest shop wall- where you punch a hole. and its gone. Can also rig a blower with a flexible swiming pool vacuum hose and use it as shop vacuum- move anywhere.

Why collect your dust? I'd love to have all your saw and sanding dust. It's a fantastic additive to compost. (Just wood dust please, no poxy dust.)

I duct tape a 2" hose of the old vac to the porter-cable sander for doing the bottom. Makes very clean work of it and I don't have burning eyes and red boogers the next morning.

Dale - realize that with a leaf blower you have a fire hazard there...

If portability is important for you, then you may want to consider the Mini-Turbo. Mine is powerful enough for shop use and small and light enough to take to boatyard and use on board.

I would agree with others that a vacuum is not a stand in for a real dust collection system.

I use a four level dust system. Dust extractor, air cleaner, shop vac, and air helmet.

I use the small vac for at the tool extraction, dusting, and vaccum bagging plywood. In my view there is no advantage to the large hose. They are less effective for spot use, and not big enough to digest all my chips (but in someone else's case they might be, I use stuff like spokeshaves, handplanes, lathes, that can't be sucked up by anything less than an extractor, or shovel)

In this range, the best vac I have ever bought is the small Shop Vac QSP. Equip it with a gortex filter, and a bag, for about 50-60 bucks all in, and you have a quiet efficient system, that can't be topped by anyone else. If you need a demand switch, buy that seperately.
