Me parece una idea maravillosa. Por donde los mandamos?

I hope not.
I have enough trouble with English.

Yes, I'd be happy if we could get most Americans to master English. My next priority for this theoretical 'requirement' would not be a second language... but logic/critical thinking. But I'm perfectly happy and supportive of a second language for folks. I'm glad I learned Finnish. Wish I'd learned German and Spanish more thoroughly.

I like you, Kevin. My regime will find you a cushy job in the Lincoln, Nebraska, where your secret will be safe.

"Murcans" are too dumb to see a need for a second language, much less learn one.

Someone asked me once if I was a Finnish Carpenter. I said no, I'm mostly Irish...

Yep... salted down and pickled at an early age.

But since I wasn't Finnish in Astoria, they wouldn't let me stay in sauna the whole time. Been half-baked every since.

As a boy I always thought Roman hands and Russian fingers was the way to a girl's heart. It turned out not to be the case. But they all swooned at my facility with Latin. Amo, amas, amat, and into he cot.

Numquam ubi sub ubi. Or words to that effect.

I used to be able to cuss in around 10 different languages. Along with proper hand gestures..

However that's normal for NJ., nothing to brag about.

You, my friend, are illiterate in dozens of languages, not the least of which is English!
But, long as I can translate Gobbledygook into English, I will continue to talk to you....no worries!

I think that's a problem many native english speakers face - who do you converse with in that second language, to get fluent - unlike many Europeans, who are surrounded by speakers of other languages.
I once got told by a German backpacker that he thought Kiwis and Aussies were ignorant, because for the most part we only speak English.
I asked him what language he thought we should learn. German, of course! And what use is that, I asked, when our nearest neighbours, a mere 1200km away across a nasty little sea, also speak English. And our Pacific Island neighbours, even further away, spoke any number of different languages, none of them being German. He did concede that this might be a dis-incentive.
I actually learnt German (badly) in high school, and it has proven useful exactly once in my entire life. In Turkey of all places.

Yah two languages. Make english the official language and require all students to be proficient in english plus a second language to graduate from high school.

this second language could be any .

the world is a competitive place.

If America wants to stop its decline , kick the entitlement addiction and stand on its own two feet it needs to produce graduates who can compete in the world.

Legally requiring people to learn a language is a stoopid idea. I was yust keeding!

Uni's do; doesn't matter the Major, or that there's little application for that language requirement. And some 'do it better' than others. Without application (and I'd say, immersion), it doesn't appear to 'stick', or have much utility.

And what you got against Lincoln?
