Finished plaking up the canoe this past weekend. I still have a few clinch nails to do in the ends but I'll have to wait until I flip her. The bottom pic here is actually from a few weeks ago, it still had one plank to go on the other side. Hopefully I'll post some more after I pull her out of the garage this weekend.
My thanks to all who have been answering my questions along the way, special thanks to Bob Smalser who is a WRC wizard :D

I like that......
What joint did you use for the laps?
Sure looks good and clean!

You know for what i's worth I think you should finish her bright on the outside. there is something so damn pretty about the copper nail heads and the cedar. I leave my dory skiffs bright on the outsie for the same reason. Bronze screw heads against the mahogany planking just looks good to me. Paint the inside with a creamy color, I don't know the name but Kirby has a color that looks like coffee with too much milk in it.
Nice Job, very sweet little boat. You should be proud.

thanks, i'm a long way from done. she has lots of interior pieces, decks and hatches etc. but i figure the end of planking is a good milestone.
the laps were beveled ala harry bryans technique of using a guide on your plane run along a batten held in place at the next planks lower edge. really helps. the gains are half laps which are not only easy to do, but incredibly satisfying to watch them go together flush. i messed the second set up a bit by not applying enough clamping pressure to them but the plane and sander will fix all.
i hear you about the copper tack heads. i love the look, but also really like the look of bright wood setting off a nice paint job as well. i'm thinking of kirbys deep red or one of his darker greens.
