I have a Wilcox-Crittenden Navy Bilge Pump (Fig. 5392)that has never been used. I'm looking for a "special high grade cup leather" described in the catalog.

Any ideas on where to look?

Try a piece of inner tube.

It won't rot.

Just made one out of a piece of my old 2'' belt. Works great, and made a spare for next time.

Jon:

Did you ever find any of these? I have two of them (In front of me now) And will send them if you want them; I use a big Edson pump now.

Bosun, I hope he did, this thread is ten years old. A common mistake. Coincidentally, I just replaced my pump leather. I ordered them from a windmill supply company and modified them.

Jon ought to delete this whole thread. He told me two weeks ago that his box of bronze stuff went missing two two three years ago, And that he never got leathers for his pump.

Just as a remark, Tandy Leather Co., 11 oz. oak tanned cowhide, makes excellent washers for the referenced pumps. I have used the material for homemade pumps of similar designs (Chuck/Paladins sketches).

The Ship's Store at the Wooden Boat Foundation carries the greased Red Latigo Leather that ia the correct material to make a pump leather from.
