hello and happy holidays to all.
hey as I read these bits about caulking and fastening and why one needs one or the other.
I was into trying to stop leaking decks with my old 31-ft.1938 edson shock cutter.
and as I pulled up the bad thick glass over the thin door skin to the old toung and grove.
I see the tops of the ribs are gone, split or rotted away where the shear plank does not hold well into the ribs or tie into the is it stringer or shear clamp as I sail hard the toe rail where the sail track is pulls way from the deck and making the hull give as well with some leaky seams .
Did I say when I sail we leak a bit in the last two years of racing in the San Francisco Master Mariners Reggatta I had to bail out of the race to literaly to bail out the water.
So I think I am a good candidate for re fastening so what about where the deck and toe rail seperates short knees ? sister the tops of the planks or long fasteners say two to three inches long to go through the plank to grab the stringer ?
ok and as to fasteners , stainless , bronze , screws or nuts and bolts?
some are currently now iron I see some repairs where done with sisters and stainless screws, am worried about the bi-metal thing going on

Keep the stupid questions coming. I asked stupid questions for six months as I built my skiff. The difference between you and me? I had no idea they were stupid until now (a year later). You're way ahead of me! :D

Oh yea, there are no "stupid" questions here, just timid folk too afraid to ask. Keep the queries coming - everyone here is more than generous with their knowlege. You are in the right place!
