I have a large jointer plane 24 x 2 5/8". Looks like a stanley, howevere the only marking on the plane is a "08" near the front.

Anyone have an idea who made it?

Thanks

Russell

If someone here can't help there is a good book on Stanley planes/tools that goes into great detail on identifying the age of a Stanley plane. It gets into lots arcane details like the type of thumbscrew and odd casting marks such as a small "B" that identified the foundary or some such.

Does your plane say Stanley or Bailey (or anything else) on the thumbscrew, lever cap, or iron? The latter two could, of course, be replacements but it would at least be a clue.

I found the book in question at the Providence Public Library so your local library may have it too, or if you are close to Providence you can come to our library.
