Shots Fired For 2nd Day In A Row At Jade Helm Site In Mississippi

ByCATHERINE THOMPSON (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/profile/catherine)PublishedAUGUST 5, 2015, 10:41 AM EDT3904 Views

For the second day in a row, shots were reportedly fired Wednesday near a Mississippi military facility where part of the "Jade Helm 15" training exercise was expected to take place.

Soldiers training at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg reported shots fired into the air around 8 a.m. local time, according to a news release obtained by local TV station WJTV. (https://twitter.com/MPullen_WJTV/status/628933489937805312) The release noted that the shots were reportedly fired in the same location where two soldiers reported being fired upon on Tuesday.

Authorities said the suspect in Wednesday's incident was a white male driving a maroon pick-up truck, according to WJTV. The news release noted that is the same suspect description given in Tuesday's shooting. (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/one-suspect-sought-camp-shelby)
The news release described Camp Shelby as being in a "heightened state of alert." Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) said in a statement that he's in communication with the head of the state's Department of Public Safety to locate and arrest the suspect, according to WJTV.
"The soldiers at Camp Shelby and across the state can and should take appropriate steps to defend themselves as necessary," Bryant said in the statement. "This is one of the reasons I signed an executive order directing certain National Guard personnel to be armed."

More than 4,600 National Guard troops are currently on site at Camp Shelby for field exercises. Part of "Jade Helm 15," the multi-state training exercise that Internet conspiracy theorists posit is actually a cover for the implementation of martial law, is also expected to take place at Camp Shelby this summer. This post has been updated.

I doubt that armed white guys, in a pickup truck, in Mississippi would be charged as terrorists, unfortunately. However, If the were another flavor...

Yeah. They are the threat. Muslim shirt birds can make any number of attacks on the US and it will only produce a greater resolve to eliminate them. Reds, by contrast, could take over.

Long as they keep it legal, that's one thing. But they need discouragement from believing that if they get rowdy, we aren't ready.

North Carolina

Feds Bust Wingnuts Who Plotted To Lure Jade Helm Troops Into Ambush
North Carolina is not one of the states where the U.S. military training exercise dubbed "Jade Helm 15" is taking place this summer (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/jade-helm-15-begins-wednesday). Nevertheless, three men from Gaston County were charged with conspiring to arm themselves with illegal explosive devices to combat what they saw as a potential military takeover, according to court documents unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court in Charlotte.

The documents alleged Walter Eugene Litteral, 50, Christopher James Barker, 42, and Christopher Todd Campbell, 30, stockpiled weapons and discussed how to build homemade explosive devices. Litteral also allegedly tried to purchase a firearm for Barker, who is a convicted felon.
A tipster first contacted the FBI in June after becoming concerned that Litteral and Campbell were "preparing to use lethal force against United States government forces in order to defend against the imposition of martial law or other infringements on their rights," according to an affidavit. The affidavit noted that the two men had discussed their belief that "Jade Helm 15" was actually a cover for the implementation of martial law (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/jade-helm-wild-conspiracy-theories) with the tipster.
Litteral ordered a great deal of military-grade equipment from the tipster, including approximately 60 rounds of ammunition for a .338 caliber long-range rifle, Kevlar helmets and body armor, according to the affidavit. He requested that the equipment be delivered by July 15, the start date of the military training exercise. He also purchased smokeless rifle powder, two-way radios and balaclavas.
The affidavit cited recorded conversations that showed Litteral allegedly planned to have his house rigged with explosives should any government agents come knocking.

60 rounds of 308 is a couple of hours at the range, three boxes of Winchester XX maybe. 7.62 NATO ammo is much less destructive. I wonder what the powder was for besides reloading old brass? Oh, 338 Lapua, expensive and very trendy for Snipers and wannabees. The rifle costs about what that truck is worth. The barrel would heat up fast and a scout chopper would pick it out like a neon bulb in a dark room. A Darwin contender certainsure but he wouldn't get the refernce.

One might make a decent argument that no one is shooting at soldiers, simply that somewhere in Murica there's a gun going off and it's following other incidents where harm was intended. A friend lives near a shooting range, I'm presently in the boonies and you can hear rifles within a mile.

Ah, backfires. Good news. That would explain all this too.

There were Kevlar helmets and body armor, pipe bombs and handmade grenades, large amounts of gunpowder and dozens of rounds of ammunition for a military-grade sniper rifle.

I think it's time to drop the anonymous "informant" nonsense.

In January, the informant relocated the military surplus store to Gaston County, N.C. — just a few doors down from where Campbell [now arrested] operated a tattoo parlor. Almost immediately, Campbell told the informant of his “anti-government” views, according to federal court documents.

Anyone who can't figure out who and where this "informant" guy is has to be pretty bad off.
