I'll be in Seattle and Port Townsend for a few days this summer. Where is a good place to shop for silicon bronze screws and other misc. small marine hardware?

Ok Steve here's a few places that you have to visit if you're coming this far. I'll give you the websites for these businesses and the city that they are in. You'll need to do the map work and schedule yourself alot of time for each visit.
www.ehardwicks.com (http://www.ehardwicks.com) , not necessarily a marine hardware store, but it is a "must see place" to go if you are in Seattle. Given a choice between going to the Space Needle or Hardwicks, go to Hardwicks.
www.docfreemans.com (http://www.docfreemans.com) , long time marine hardware store in the Ballard area of Seattle.
www.fisheriessupply.com (http://www.fisheriessupply.com) , similar to Doc Freemans.
www.admiraltymarine.com (http://www.admiraltymarine.com) , used marine items, Ballard/Shilshole area of Seattle.
www.marinesupplyandhardware.com (http://www.marinesupplyandhardware.com) , old marine and general hardware store in Anacortes WA. , not far from PT. You gotta see this place, and visit the folks a short walk away a Flounder Bay (www.flounderbay.com) , great folks, nice store.
www.pacificmarineexchange.com (http://www.pacificmarineexchange.com) , great old marine hardware store (used and some new) located in Bellingham, WA. not far from Anacortes and PT. Close to the Canadian border.
www.cwb.org (http://www.cwb.org) ,good wood boat addicts hang out. You gotta go there.
There you go, you've got a good start, there's more.
Good luck, have fun, let us know when you are coming.

That about sums it up! Between all the places RGM mentioned, I got just about everything I needed for my project. I'd only add another little marine exchange type place at the big marina in Port Townsend, (sorry, don't remember the name, off hand...) and perhaps Alaska Copper & Brass in Seattle, if you need any plate or round stock.

(Oh... Tacoma Screw, in several locations, is a good place for square drive, silicon bronze screws/carriage bolts, etc., but you could probably do just as well calling Jamestown Distributers...)

You're gonna get some funny looks at the security checkpoint if you try to bring a bunch of "boat jewelry" home in your carry-on bag! (Don't ask me how I know this... ;) )

In Port Townsend see Pete Langly at the Port Townsend Foundry (360)385-6425. They keep a lot of bronze hardware in stock and will cast about anything you may need for a traditional vessel.
The used gear place mentioned earlier is called Marine Exchange located at the Port Townsend Boat Haven.
Good Luck

Don't forget Dunato's Second Wave at 3601 Greenwood Ave. Last time I was in there they had a ton of old unused bronze fastenings -- mostly full boxes, in odd sizes and shapes but looked like good stuff.

BTW I fully endorse RGM's suggestions. Also Flounder Bay is right next to the marine hardware store in Anacortes -- also worth a stop. They had Irish felt when I needed it.

Hey, thanks a million for those locations and web sites. I'll be in Seattle for the wooden boat show at CWB over the July 4th weekend, and then am spending a day in Port Townsend and later going down to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria. Then on to get my wife's flight in Portland and drive further south to visit relatives. This is my 4th summer of Wooden Boat class/museum fun, the previous three being back east from D.C. to Maine. Anyone been to the Puget Sound Maritime Museum?
