That's a great site (althought all the pop-up adds are a bit annoying tongue.gif ). I've always liked flags and it's fun looking throught this site and picking out particularly nice designs. I am partial to the flag of my home state (Rhode Island, USA), althought the design is not particularly brilliant. What more could a seaman ask for than an anchor and hope?

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/UNST065.GIF

Another favorite is Labrador, Canada:

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/CANA005.GIF

Nunavut, Canada is also rather interesting:

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/CANA024.GIF

The flag for Antartica is less than inspired but it is rather curious that they note the 'Capital' of Antartica to be 'Amundsen-Scott Base, South Pole'! I'd never heard anyone talk about the Capital of Antarctica before...

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/ANTA001.GIF

The many flags with completely impossible to read from a distance coats of arms and shields in the middle of the flag get a bit tedious. This unfortunately includes many of the US State flags. However the Isle of Man's flag, while along these lines, is rather interesting:

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/ISMA001.GIF

I also like the Alaska, USA flag, maybe in part because if I remember correctly it was designed by a school child:

Too right! Thanks Mike

I kinda like this one...

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/ASTL001.GIF

But more specifically this one...

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/ASTL014.GIF

But then Im just plain biased!! I love the West Aussie flag! :D

Now on the question of flags... Whats the correct protocol for me yet to be built boat? Do I need to get a hold of this one...

http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/ASTL002.GIF

The Civil Ensign

Or this one...
http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/ASTL003.GIF

The Naval Ensign?

I dont think as a private citizen Id be able to fly the second but Im wondering about the first? Or will the just the standard Aussie flutterer do the trick?

Take it easy
Shane

The red one Shane. We have our version ( less two!stars) but it's just been replaced( I'm talking the maritime version only.)
That site doesn't have our new civil ( maritime)ensign.

Up the Jolly Roger.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid25/p03397ca92dfe9bd595cdb85f9f988d7f/fd872bd1.jpg

A flag hoisted by particularly nasty pirates. Joli rouge, 'Pretty red', blood red.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid25/p2fb556a384aeb46a2625974d9f4fb70f/fd889413.jpg

On the site it said, 'previously hoisted by pirates now only flown by drunks'.

Warren.

ps, I'd better not get one then.

Just wondering... I will be launching the AnnieD this summer and thought that it might be fun for the kids to dress as pirates and we could hang a Jolly Roger on her. Is this considered to be in "bad taste"?

WRB, Tricky one. Piracy is real enough these days. I used to get upset about it, but now I think I was being silly. Real pirates don't fly the Jolly Roger, after all.

No Shane, you need to move here and put a Maryland flag on the boat. Best damn flag ever! Not that I'm partial....

The Stevenson's and their BYYC group uses a sort of Skull and Cross flag, only they cross an oar and a paint brush under the skull. White on black.
