Get one for free at Dunkin Donuts today.

I turned it down. I eat lots of junk food, but a donut is just a bit too 'junky' for me :)

Krispey Kreme - fried in lard, dipped in molten sugar - Hot Doughnuts Now!

When Krispy Kreme decided to move into the New England market, I was hopeful... the promo, and the buzz, was just fantastic, with all these people praising thier doughnuts to the skies as being the ultimate in the doughnut art.

They opened a store in Dedham, MA, and I finally got to taste one, hot out of the cookers.... and.....

...what a disappointment: a gloppy, fat-and-sugar-saturated mess. I took a dozen home, and frankly, once they're cold, they're even WORSE.

The store lasted less than a year, before shutting down (same with all the other KK locations they opened in NE). KK simply bombed in this market. That Dedham store is now a GNC Nutrition center.

Forget the doughnuts. Forget the coffee. The place you want to go is to one of the Mary Lou Doughnut Shops. It's a small chain in the south shore area (south of Boston), notable by two things: its purple paint scheme, and the servers... all of whom are lovely young women in tight T-shirts. It's the 'Hooters' of the doughnut world :)

Same here Norm, the KK lasted about a year, sat vacant for a few years, now it's a Dibella's sandwich shop, which seems to be surviving well enough.

If I'm in Rhody or someplace with a Timmy's I may indulge, but I'm more of a biscotti nibbling type liberal pinky-wagger.

I agree. Recently one opened in Tacoma....now every function it's lousy doughnuts from kk. The only reason is because they are an "easy to get to" now every function, I just pass on the kk's

I like donuts rather more than is good for me, and I simply do not understand why people eat Krispy Kreme donuts. They disappeared in Minnesota too.

I don't think I've ever had one! Not a big fan of donuts anyway!

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be sure and celebrate with a donut from my local shop. It's right on the way to my first stop of the morning.

I'd turn down a frosted, sprinkled, cake donut, myself.

I haven't had a pastry in over 20 years, much less a donut. Controlling diabetes is a bytch sometimes. No pasta of any kind either. Bobby complained about a low carb diet. I've always been on a low carb diet. Even though I wasn't diagnosed diabetic until about five years ago I always ate like I had it; it runs in my family. But I control it with diet alone; no pills or shots, thank goodness. But I wish I could eat junk, even Krispy Kreme.

regards,
Waddie

Trust me: Krispy Kreme is VASTLY overrated!

I like Krispies... in the store. As Norman says, once they're cold... they're quite pedestrian. Haven't had one in years though. There's a local two-store outfit called Voodoo Donuts, and it's the whole PortlandWeird poster child. And they make some very good donuts. A lot are way to gimmicky for me (coco-puffs on a donut?), but who could resist a chocolate/bacon donut????

Me. I like bacon, but not in EVERY context :)

I thought KK was terrible..

We do not have a store here but high school kids bring them here for fundraisers and sell them.

I stopped and bought a box, they were nasty.

At any rate not one sweet since my diet, I did buy low carb cookies that taste like cardboard.

Such is my life.......

Well... if you ever get to Portland... then you can tell me it's not a good idea. Till then... it's just your ignorance making you appear demented <G>
