Whoever stropped that upper main-sheet block should be hung up by the gronicles.

With that little travel on the main-sheet horse, why have it at all? Why not have just a huge pad eye?

Reduce or remove shock loads against the rubber shock absorbers.

Well you need some kind of a horse to leave the deck clear for the tiller, and if they found a need for those shock-absorbers they probably know that the caprail across the transom isn't up to the task.

You talk as though the sheet horse buffers were invented by this boats crew. Dixon Kemp published illustrations of just such a sheet horse in 1878
