Hanging Knees: Vertical with one leg facing downward.
Standing Knees: Vertical with one leg facing upward.
Breasthook: I say it is a full horizontal knee
Mast Partners: Horizontal knee or knees depending on whether full or paired.
Quarter Knees: Horizontal knees between side of hull and transom.
Full horizontal knee except crossing the stem=lodging knee

Them foam knee pads were good for a couple of weeks per set.
Now I see that Duluth Trading has some gel filled ones.

Paul; I have a pair and they are very nice. (Our shop floor is concrete.) However the black plastic on the outside looks like it might be able to leave a mark on a finished floor. Don't know for sure.

Skiller's or the Duluth Trading Company's latest knockoff.
The knee pads are large and built in so you are never without them.

Paul; They feel great when you are on them, but tend to wander a bit when walking around. Also just wearing them heats up your knees which feels good!

I can't help but refer to a previous posting of mine. First though here is, again and not my invention, how to search the forum. Go to Google, click on advanced search and where it says "Find result with all words" type : Lofting Walcheren . Then lower down, in the white area, where it talks about domain, type in the empty space: http://www.woodenboat-ubb.com
What you get is all the threads where we talked about lofting. Click on the first one and scroll down, away down, past the pants, and there you come to some photos of lofting done vertically. I did two boats that way, 12 and 16 feet. Worked perfectly and kept my shop free for other stuff. I would appreciate comments but I can not see any reason why a small boat can not be done that way.

For a choice of just about every knee pad known to man check out a wholesale floorcovering installation supply shop. Just about every big city has at least one and probably more. Ask your local flooring shop where they buy their "installation supplies". Flooring installers spend the whole day on their knees.
I like either the gell or the felt lined leather. The hard caps are only good for surfaces you don't want to damage. Some of the high density foam/nylon cordura covered ones have fans. Find the right supplier and you will fine real professional pads probably not seen at Home Depot.
And probably find Skillers too as Bob says. Don't fear the "wholesale" sign on the door. They will sell any body normally but if you wear work clothes and tell them you are a boat builder and need knee pads for lofting parts then you will get the professional price not the retail price. As in "Hi, I'm Joe from ABC Boatworks and need a new pair of knee pads".
These suppliers can also be a good source of chip brushes and epoxy roller covers and a whole variety of cool tools, adhesives and other stuff.
