I am in the process of constructing a new 32' lobster boat, which will have room for a settee in the wheelhouse - Unfortunately, I've lost a very useful reference page I once owned, namely a basic guide to measurements for the human form, which would be quite helpful at the stage I now find myself. Any suggestions where I might find such a set of pictures/drawings/dimensions?

Any edition of Ian Nicolson's Boat Data Book which is filled with all sorts of useful information.

Boat Joinery and Cabinetmaking Simplified by Fred P. Bingham. Available through the WoodenBoat Store ... look in "books" under "woodworking."

It'll have what you need, plus some!

Good luck ... pictures?

Perhaps a little overkill, but everything you could possibly need is in MIL-STD-1472, "Human Engineering Design Criteria for Military Systems, Equipment and Facilities"

Anything military is overkill . . . besides, their seats are uncomfortable.

Bingham's and Nicholson's books are comprehensive. It may seem like doing it twice, but you may want to mock it up in place with cheap stuff and really test the fit. Like make the thing and sit down to read a book or fool with a chart. If you can, mock it up on a portable frame so's you can hang it between some horses and have a few strong friends give it that hideous motion of a little yaw, pitch, sway, heave, roll & surge.

Skene's Elements of Yacht Design has a good page on that.

Also, if I remember correctly this information is in Architectural Graphic Standards, which I would think most city library's would have a copy of.

Skene's is good for that, and George beuler's book has some of that information about human dimensions. It's amazing what very small changes can make. One year, I made for my parents a nice trestle table for their dining room. As I often find leg room under many tables to be tight, I made the table top 31" high instead of the standard 30". I cannot describe to you how odd that table felt before I changed it back to standard height. It certainly is worthwhile trying to stick to the standards to which we are accustomed!
