I did a search on partial sheets of plywood and came up blank. Please forgive me if this has been covered to death.
Is there any place to buy partial sheets of nice quality marine plywood. I need a sheet 48" x 18" x .5" or so. Would prefer a better grade with more plys. This is for the rudder cheeks. Any idea where I can buy something like this without having to spring for a full 4x8' sheet?
Thanks!
DaveF
ps... Madison, Wisconsin if it matters.

You could buy a full sheet of a thinner plywood and then epoxy pieces together to get the thickness you want. That way you're just paying for the wood you need. I just did this for rudder cheeks, though these are not yet installed, and Norm Messinger said he did this for a transom. I found that the thin plywood I bought only had three plies, with the outer two face pieces a thinner veneer than the inner ply.

Dave -
Have you tried BVC Hardwood? He's out just past the NE corner of Lake Mendota. When I was there this summer it looked like he had some marine plywood partial sheets and/or cutoffs.

DaveF,
Ask at your local lumber yards for their salvage.
Often they have plywood damaged on the skids which they will cut up into smaller pieces and sell as project lumber. Usually, for more than the square foot price of a full sheet but it saves you buying wood you don't need.
Then again if you buy a full sheet and leave the excess in the garage for a while it becomes the seed of your next project which is always a good thing.

Marine ply being what it is, being used how it is, and costing what it does, there's a high probability that any supplier will at some stage have cut up sheets to make a package kit for a client's project.
So just find a supplier and ask him about offcuts.

Bought some once from The Japan Woodworker in Alameda, CA. Had a vertical setup for cutting amounts to order, within reason, half, quarter sheet square footage, 3/4 inch which on close examination was two 3/8's, an even number of laminations with the two middle ones parallel, grain? Probably too far away though, luck on this one, cbob
