Top of my list is "Devlin's Boat Building". Also good is "A Skiff For All Seasons", this was my first boat, how to, book. Renn tells it how he sees it. I would buy both again.

Dear Lumberdude, Dynamite Payson's books are good references also. Search the internet for H.H. Payson & Co. Good luck, Mike.

Devlin covers the subject well from why to how. Renn's book is interesting but not about stitch & glue. Ruel Parker's book is also useful to describe new building techniques but again, it's not about stitch & glue.
There is a lot of information floating about on the web in different sites. Some of it is good and some is best avoided.
Sam Devlin has been at this a long time and his boats have gained a reputation for quality. You will not go wrong by using the techniques described in his book until, by experience, you may choose other variations.

I'll second the reference to Payson.
I've had some phone conversations with him, and he's a knowledgable boatbuilder with a helpful attitude.
