View Full Version : hello...

I've been off line for quite a few months and am currently wrestling with a new computer and Windows 8. I can't say I'm impressed with either the computer or the new operating system. Old dogs, new tricks, and all that.

Nice to see some familiar faces and seemingly familiar arguments. I haven't read through more than a handful... The familiar arguments/observations of the human condition around sex, politics ,religion.

Just remember it's the locomotive, not the caboose, that gets ya.

Nice to be back.

Welcome back. I have heard that Windows 8 is not great. I had to move from XP because of my tax software provided but went to 7 instead of 8.

Well, hello!

The world as a whole hasn't changed much, little surprise, but rumour was, that your world had changed a lot. Glasses more than half full instead of more than half empty and such. Following Cat Stevens "Father and son" recommendations. Everything ok?

Hey Ish, I'm heading for ME. is August (?) for a memorial of a good friend who died this winter in Rockland and then catching up with a college roommate in Brewer I haven't seen since 1976. I'd love to see you. Not sure of the exact dates but, can let you know when I do.

Welcome back, Jack. I had the same reaction to 8.

It's nice to feel welcomed.

There are some fine folks here, some of whom I've met, some of whom I've sailed with.

It has been a rough few months. A detached retina that is never going to be right again, surgery, a on again off again wonky hip, some minor legal troubles, lovers who live too far away...ya know, the usual.

I tend to be an optimist by nature. Life throws you some curve balls... so it's time to learn a new batting stance. Then, just when you get used to the curve balls the opposing manager puts in a new pitcher whose specialty is sinkers. LOL.

Another film that I've enjoyed very much, an English film, "Hillary and Jackie." Two sisters, both fine musicians. Hillary gives up trying to be a world class floutist and marries. Jackie is widely considered the finest cellist of her generation.

At the height of her career she develops multiple sclerosis. I won't tell you any more in case you might like to watch it. There is some fine music in it, particularly the Elgar cello concertos.

Joy and tragedy are strange bedfellows.

Gidday Jack, welcome back!
