Greetings. Exciting, I've read the forum often since purchasing my boat, but this is my first post! We are restoring a 37' 1965 Owens Grenada motoryacht here in Sacramento California. Its got a brand new bottom (double hulled epoxy)and now we are focusing on the topside.
It seems like a such simple thing but we are missing one of the four bow rail base fittings. Its a 1 1/8" diameter 60 degree chrome plated brass fitting with a round bottom. I haven't been able to find 1 1/8" diameter fittings, while 7/8" and 1" are abundant. Any ideas where I might find what I'm looking for? Thank you.

Make sure its 1 1/8 and not 1 1/4. Are they stainless? It could have been exclusive to Owens, which could make things difficult, but dont dispair. With a bit of work, you can build replicas or have one of the shops that build custom boatrails build you something.
I had aluminum and stainless rail fittings on my boat and the salt blew the bases apart. I rebuilt from scratch as the commerically available bases would not fit the combing. If you go the custom welding route, ask to see the welder's typical work. Some guys work looks like birdcrap on a stick while another is jewellery quality! Get it polished and then electro-polished. Electropolishing removes any iron particles from the surface, therefore no yellow stains in the future.
