For many Republicans, the move to expand access to Medicaid amounts to an endorsement of Obamacare, but states like Montana that refused federal funding have been under pressure to reconsider that decision.

A contentious legislative battle in Montana ended this week, after the state's GOP-controlled House voted to accept federal funding to expand Medicaid to the working poor a feature of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, that Republicans had vigorously opposed.

A House committee originally voted down the measure to expand the access to Medicaid, but supporters succeeded in using procedural rules to bring the bill to the floor on Thursday. Thirteen GOP moderates broke with party leadership to back the measure, which passed 54 to 46.

Now the House and Senate must reconcile one amendment before the legislation lands on the desk of Gov. Steve Bullock, a Democrat, who is expected to sign the bill into law.

It's encouraging to see the light coming on here and there. Or there and there. (We're still waiting here.)

I see Florida is considering it as well. Good thing! Need to get the population covered in advance of the upcoming wave of monitor-lizard, crocodile, and python attacks!! <G>

That's good.Wow!

Any chance you'd also like to condemn the other states' politicos that haven't yet taken this stance?

During the discussions leading to this vote - the Koch-sponsored AFP helicoptered in, held public meetings in districts where representatives declined their demand to vote against the bill, and spread a bunch of lies. Your costs will go up. Zombies will eat your children. Millions of Montanans DON'T want this.

Problem is:

1. Based on evidence in other states, their costs aren't likely to go up. The feds cover the costs of expansion at first, then 90% after that. Individuals costs will very likely go down.

2. Zombies aren't real.

3. Neither are their non-support numbers. First - they make no citation of actual data tallying numbers of folks who communicated to AFP that this did not support Medicaid expansion. Second - and here we have some hard data... even if they had done an actual poll - they would have been hard-pressed to come up with 'millions' in opposition. That's because the total population of the state is just a shade over ONE million.

So... I ask again --

Thinking Republicans - aren't you tired of this sort of lying, cheating, massive privately-funded chit by now?
