"Polar bears are large but do not write great literature and build radio towers," he says, "and a lot of that is probably because they are walking around on all fours."

I think he means that polar bears EITHER write great literature OR build radio towers, but they never do both. Makes perfect sense--engineers are rarely great writers (with George Saunders being the possible exception to prove the rule).

Does Neville Shute get a look in?

Perhaps if polar bears wrote more clearly, with something that contrasts better than yellow on white snow, they'd get more recognition.

Polar Bears live happily, year after year, in the GD Artic, fer'cryin' out loud! What more to we expect?

Maybe they don't need radio towers or literature.

They also don't need us, for sure.

I imagine they're uninspired - they need something they can sink their teeth into.

I wonder if Seth Shostack, SETI Institute Researcher, can write great literature and build radio towers.
