Frankly, I wish Chris Carter would have resurrected 'Millenium', instead... it was a vastly better show.

Ever notice that when you watch an English Detective show on the T & V increased volume does nothing to make their statements intelligible?

Yes, I have noticed, but it isn't just detective shows and it isn't just TV. It also isn't just Brit. And it actually also isn't just a function of broadcast 'volume.'

Everyone on TV that isn't acting is yelling. And being clear, and facing the audience and speaking directly into the microphone and waiting for the applause to die down. Everybody acting on TV or film, is aware of the great technology and that it is sensitive enough to catch a dramatic murmur, so everyone with any sensitivity is murmurring. Facing away from the camera. There also seems to be direction to the actors to speak rapidly and over each other. To be dramatic. And realistic. So no projection unless you're on Broadway or hosting the Oscars.
