I remember using a black, cloth(?), double stick rigging tape back in my schooner days... Good stuff for parceling rigging wire with before serving with good Italian marline. Picking up the rest of my standing rigging supplies at Fisheries' Supply today, all I could find on their shelves was some plasticy, stretch type stuff. Anybody know the cloth like tape I'm talking about and where I can find it locally? Is it perhaps a plumber's sort of thing? Haven't checked with Doc Freeman yet... Once through Ballard/Freemont on the "Solstice" was enough!

Art, ya mean the old linen/cotton fabric based electricians tape? It is still available, for I gloomed onto two rolls of it from a local electrical supply house here in 'insane Diego' just about a month ago. If no place else MacMaster Carr or Graingers should have it.
OR contact Brion Toss over in Pt.Townsend.
He has GOT to have a source for it or an equivalent.
Luck...

So Art, that was you that Annie and I saw riding a bicycle buck naked in the Fremont Solstice Parade! Now where did I put that disc with that picture on it.

I cruised past the Fremont bridge Saturday at about 1 PM and wondered how those cyclists did in the parade as the squalls were coming through. The Nickerson St. Saloon was filled to the gills with folks trying to get out of the first weather of Summer. I just wish that Spring would come back!

I believe what you are looking for is called "friction tape". It's what we used for electrical tape before they made the plastic stuff. I have seen it for sale in the last few years but I can't remember where.

PS
Just did a search on Google and look what I found:

Art,

I recall it as being friction tape too. I used to use it on my hockey stick when I was a kid. Maybe it's still used for that. I know hockey sticks are rare in Seattle, but there might be a source online.

McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/) and Grainger (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml) both carry it - search on "friction tape". Most decent hardware stores have it as well.
