I'm posting for my brother, whose computer is currently down.

He bought a 3/8 stainless U-bolt to use for the mooring eye on the bow of the dory he's building. The one that arrived from the catalogue was junk, the machining on the thread very loose. It came from Asia, BTW.

Is there a source for good stuff, 304 or 316 stainless? He says he will settle for good bronze, but would prefer stainless.

TIA,

Jack

Their 10mm aka 13/32 ins one has a working load of more than 9,900 pounds and a failure load of more than 15,000 pounds.

Any good chandlery ought to have it. And West Marine carries Wichard stuff, so they either have it or can get it.

[this just in]

West Marine does carry Wichard's waterproof u-bolts at http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=25432

Cheers,

N.

In the interest of fairness, try Hamilton Marine also. Unless, of course, the defective one came from Hamilton Marine. In that case, we would all like to know and I'm sure Hamilton Marine would like to know as well.

This outfit has good stuff.

http://www.bosunsupplies.com/

I needed a boweye for my Mako and I wanted it exact copy. I hunted everywhere for it. I called them and he said call me back in a couple of hour's. I did and he had one. When I got it I was pleased. It was a little more money, but I didn't care and it is 316 stainless.
