Looking for a source for wood shell snatch blocks like the old Merriman type with ash shells. I've tried most of the current manufacturers, but find only singles and doubles with/without beckets. No fiddle blocks either, except for Toplicht.

You might be able to find some but more likely you will have to make you own.

I made a pair like this out of cherry. The toggle opened permits the line placed in on the sheave. The above one took my weight of 170 lbs. Have no idea what it's breaking load would be. It measures 3 " and takes a 3/8" line. ( Check out "Boatbuilder" mag. Mar/April 2004)

J. Dillon: Those are nice looking snatch blocks.
I need something a bit stronger, for 7/16 or 1/2" line, with metal parts. I use them for spinnaker sheet leads and preventer on a 34-footer. The old Merriman #3's are just right, but they seem to be extinct. My boat is an antique and I don't want to use Tufnol. rubber shell or all-metal blocks.
