I would check with Dan Miller at Dragonfly Canoe Works (http://dragonflycanoe.com/) . If he does not have them, he should know where you can get them (if they are available at all).

I should have said check with Dan Miller or Todd Bradshaw -- one of them will know! Despite the fact that Todd's book is setting face up right next to me here at my desk, I had the two of them mixed together in my head... redface.gif :D

Old Town used to sell 'em. Last I checked, I don't think they still did.

The picture Leon posted is from the Old Town website so, man, it sure seems like they should sell them, if only as replacements to go with the yoke in the picture, but that doesn't mean they do...

I tried Old Town a while back...funny, they have
them on their products but can't find out who
makes them...oh well.
I've tried a google search too...do they call them
by a name other than tailnuts?
I'll give Dragonfly canoe works a try too.
Thanks...Leon

In the McMaster-Carr catalog, they are called "handle nuts". Unfortunately, they only carry them in forged steel, stainless steel, and malleable iron. If you have an interest, you can search their website here:
McMaster-Carr web site (http://www.macmaster.com)
If all else fails, you can drill an angled hole in the side of a regular nut, insert a rod and braze it in place. You might even get away with using soft solder and a propane torch instead of brazing.

At the time several years ago I was building a Whisp and looking for leeboard hardware. As I recall Old Town had carriage bolts but nothing else that I needed. Perhaps they do now carry them. I recall looking for them in various other places and had no luck. I finally had a guy at Springfield Fan Centerboard make up the hardware I needed.

Last time I talked to the people at Old Town
I asked them about the ones in the picture. They
replied by saying "we no longer carry sailing
parts"...What does a conoe yolk have to do with
sailing...  .
I sent an e-mail to Dragonfly...we'll see what
they have to say.
And I'll try some of the other ideas...Thanks !

This is what Dan from dragonfly had to say...
the hunt continues............................
You may be able to get tail nuts from Old Town, however, my experience has
been that they have been reluctant to sell them alone. I once had to order
an outboard bracket mounting kit, which came with the tail nuts, a couple
carriage bolts, aluminum clamps.
Bristol Bronze (www.bristolbronze.com) is reproducing Old Town hardware,
and can supply both tail nuts and leeboard brackets. Make sure you are
sitting down when you get the prices...
Bob Lavertue (Springfield Fan Centerboard Company) makes hardware also,
though I don't believe any of his are cast.
Best bet may be to keep an eye open for old hardware that has the missing
bits you need. I usually have some, but sold all my leeboard bracket sets
at Assembly this summer. If you have a friend that is into casting you may
be able to have parts made for you.
Cheers,
Dan

Might be another good product possibility for Bruce Hooke's casting business. With a bit of design work their looks could also be improved.

I think the Leeboard brackets could be a hot
seller as well.I could find only one person who
makes them and he want $75 a piece.I know the
guys got to make a living...but that seems high.
