Those long tails are way beyond cool.

That one has it both ways. Light and powerful

I don't have audio on my computer, so maybe I'm missing something, but what makes this a bass boat?

I've ridden in one of those, pretty incredible.

For audio, just think 1970's two stroke twin cylinder race bike.... lots of ringdingding

What makes it a bass boat? The guy who labelled it.... :d

OK, that's rather more adrenaline that I'd probably want. Is it for racing? (Spiffy shorts on the guy in the foreground, BTW)

I don't know Keith. It just popped up on my FB feed and was a much more interesting one than the normal parade of food, murdered corpses or splattered bodies that the Thais seem to like to share.

.... and as for his shorts, I hadn't noticed them until you pointed them out. Yes... a bit loud.

That acceleration would be quite 'exciting'.

As would be the first bend in the river.

Transportation, in the same sense as a muscle car is transportation.

I've even seen one acting as a mobile restaurant, though how his customers managed to stop him, I can't say. More examples here:

I spent a few minutes looking for it on youtube, didn't find it. Tried to embed it... failed. Hence the FB link.

I thought I might have uploaded a clip of a similar but larger and slower rat-tailed boat I went down the Mekong on ... but I don't seem to have it.

Here's a variety of mostly rat-tailed boats, but including a couple of small inboards and the large banana boat we were on in Vietnam

The boat in the FB video is about half the size of one of these... and twice as fast. I took one of these down river and we were doing almost 40 mph on my GPS

There are quite a few of those engines with the props at the end of a long shaft in Louisiana and Mississippi. They look like fun. Thanks also John for that link. It was interesting too.

What do they call a long-tail boat there?

Good question. I have no idea!:d
Edit: I did a quick Google. They call them long tail or long shaft.

Not quite as elegant as the Thai version.
